Join Umbrella for a morning of revealing discussions in connection with new exhibitions and the 'Transitions' mentorship program. The events will commence from 10am with a panel discussion featuring this year's 'Transitions' mentees, whose work will be exhibited in 'Transitions: Undertones'. The program's inaugural emerging arts writer Michael Smith will lead the conversation, exploring the work of the emerging artists Alicia Allen, Simsala Grimm, Daniel Meza and Natalie Simpson. Audiences will gain insights into their works on display as well as their individual mentorships and collective experience of professional development with Umbrella and Townsville City Galleries.
At around 10:45am, audiences will regroup for a floortalk by Vicki Katthagen within her exhibition 'Lightborne'. Vicki will speak about the distinctive elements of her abstracted floral photographs; reflecting on colour's ability to evoke memory and mood, alongside her removal of colour in other photographs to highlight the structure and fragility of the flowers. Vicki's talk will also give insights into her journey as an artist since she was mentored in the 2024 Transitions program.

'Transitions: Undertones', 'Lightborne' and 'Florae II' will all be on display 7 November - 21 December 2025.
The 'Transitions' program is a partnership between Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts and Townsville City Galleries.
