About this Event
Join us for a powerful and timely panel discussion on the intersection of fire, culture, and climate change in Southern California. With the recent catastrophic wildfires still fresh in the minds of many, this panel will explore the historic fire regimes of Southern California Tribes and address how traditional fire practices, designed to manage vegetation and reduce the risk of catastrophic fires, can inform contemporary approaches to fire management in the face of climate change. The panel will also provide insights into the ways fire has been used to support cultural practices, from basket weaving to wildlife management, and how Indigenous fire knowledge offers a valuable framework for sustainable land stewardship.
