Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee (b. 1955) is a world renowned sitar maestro of the Imdadkhani Gharana. Widely considered one of the greatest sitarists of the recorded era, Budhaditya Ji has received his entire training in Sitar and Surbahar from his illustrious father, the late Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee, a well-known sitarist and doyen of the Imdadkhani Gharana of sitar. Due to his father’s profound teachings and his own extraordinary talent, Budhaditya’s music has blossomed into a unique lyrical magic that reflects the gayaki ang on the sitar with befitting clarity.
Today, he has not only kept alive but improved and furthered the creative concepts of Ustad Imdad Khan - after whom the gharana is named and in the process, he has also popularized immensely the traditions of Imdadkhani Gharana.
The depth of his alap and the intricate taankari is a reflection of a mastery over his instrument that has done justice to his Guru, his father, Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee.
Since 1979, Mukherjee has given over 1526 concerts within India and 1278 recitals abroad in 26 countries. In recognition of Budhaditya Mukherjee’s mastery of his chosen art form, he has been awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2010), the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest state awards, in 2019, and the Rashtriya Kalidas Samman (2022) from the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Arnab Chakrabarty (b. 1980) is one of today’s distinguished maestros of the sarod, a fretless plucked instrument noted equally for its lyrical, crystalline sound and its formidable difficulty.
Chakrabarty has evolved a recognizable personal style based on the traditions of the Shahjahanpur Gharana, the founding tradition of sarod music. He has been fortunate to study with luminaries of the art such as Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Dr. Kalyan Mukherjea and Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan. Arnab has also received training in vocal music from Pt. Yeshwantbua Joshi.
Since the late 1990s, Arnab Ji has toured within India and overseas, giving nearly 1000 concerts in over 34 countries, appearing at leading venues and music festivals across the world, and delivering lectures and performances at dozens of university music departments as well. Arnab maintains a busy performing and teaching schedule, dividing his time between North America and India.
Based in Toronto since 2018, Chakrabarty is a recipient of multiple project grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, and was awarded the Chalmers Arts Fellowship (2023) by the Ontario Arts Council.
Soumen Nandy is a distinguished tabla virtuoso renowned for his energetic yet sensitive playing style. He commenced his musical journey under the tutelage of Pandit Pankaj Chatterjee of the Farukhabad gharana, a disciple of Ustad Keramatullah Khan, and further refined his skills with Pandit Arup Chatterjee. An A-grade artist with All India Radio and Doordarshan, Soumen has accompanied eminent musicians, notably forming an acclaimed partnership with sitar maestro Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee. His performances are celebrated for their intricate rhythmic patterns and profound musicality, contributing significantly to both traditional and contemporary Indian classical music scenes.
Shankh Lahiri is an internationally recognized tabla artist, composer, vocalist, and founder of Shruti Foundation, Shruti School of Music, Shankh & Friends Global Project, and the world-fusion band WAHH!. Born into a family deeply rooted in Indian classical music, he is the son of renowned sitarist and guru Shri Rabi Lahiri.
Trained in vocal music and tabla by his father, Shankh has pursued advanced tabla studies under Pandit Nayan Ghosh for more than twenty years.
Dedicated to preserving tradition while embracing innovation, he has collaborated with legendary maestros including Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Arati Ankalikar, Pandit Nayan Ghosh, and Rakesh Chaurasia. His global tours have taken him across Germany, France, Switzerland, Canada, and the Middle East. Shankh has graced prestigious stages worldwide, with highlights including the Sanremo Music Festival (Cuba), SXSW, Gasparilla Music Festival, House of Blues, Rockwood Music Hall, and Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
