Brief:
In this seminar, I will be presenting a chapter draft based on my dissertation tentatively titled, “The Contested Academy and Proliferating Modernities: The Art of Nation Building in Nepal.” My dissertation project was based on long-term ethnographic and archive-based fieldwork in Kathmandu between 2018-2022. In this chapter, I ask how does the emergence of “Nepali modernism” align with the cultural politics of building a modern nation under the Panchayat regime.
