A medium distance hiking tour created by Cyprus Nature Hikes, passing through vine fields, to reach Vouni mountaintop at an altitude of 1140m with panoramic views towards Akamas, Kannaviou reservoir, Kikkos, Troodos and the picturesque village of Panagia village below.
The hiking route continues and passes by Prophet Elias church, beautiful rock formations and cliffs with geological interest, to reach through a downhill route at the serene monastery of Panagia Chrysorrogiatissa. The monastery was founded in 1152 by Ignatius, who came across an icon with the image of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin appeared and told him to build a monastery. The icon was painted by St Luke the Evangelist and is kept at the monastery.
Of course we will not skip the traditional village of Panagia, the birthplace of Archbishop and first president of the Republic of Cyprus, Makarios III.
After the hiking tour we can have lunch at one of Panayia's traditional village taverns (optional).
