Giles Smith has been a key figure and influential DJ at the forefront of deep, roots-inspired, soulful dance music in London for over two decades now. For 21 years before recently going solo, Giles was one half of Secretsundaze. One of London’s most infamous, best loved and consistent party’s and DJ duos. Giles has played at many of the best clubs across Europe, USA and Japan from Panorama Bar, Smart Bar, Plastic People, Contact, Robert Johnson to Closer.
His sound ranges from vocal cuts, raw Detroit inspired jams, broken beat, boogie, garage to late night hypnotism. In smaller, low-key settings, he often shows his love of soul, street soul, and hip hop. His DJ sets are characterised by a strong emphasis on groove and smooth flow while never becoming too predictable.
As a producer, Giles was one half of respected production duo Two Armadillos from 2008 to 2013, before the tragic loss of his partner Martin Dawson. They released 16 EP’s and remixed the likes of Jovonn, Commix, Leif, and Lana Del Ray. Since then, as part of Secretsundaze he has released on stellar labels such as Mule Musiq, Live at Robert Johnson, Just Jack and Phonica.
Giles recently launched his new solo bi-monthly residency on NTS Radio. Don’t forget to check his essential and epic deep dives on Ron Trent and Larry Heard for NTS’s “In Focus” series.
Giles recently threw his first solo party in the capital at The Pickle Factory, and in the next few months he’ll play at Giant Steps, Eglo Records legendary Corsica studios bash and E1. With new music on the way and his unwavering love for timeless dance music stronger than ever, Giles will surely continue to be seen as a force to be reckoned with.
