Dr Sheikh Moeen Ul Haq (AKA Moeen), Consultant Palliative Medicine at the Rutherford Cancer Centre Thames Valley

Thursday 17th February at 2.00pm

Join us to find out more about how supportive care can provide better pain management and ongoing holistic care.

Rutherford Cancer Centres operate a network of cancer centres, nationally and internationally, providing all-encompassing cancer services for patients. Their vision is to transform cancer care for patients by providing personalised and holistic support. The centres deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging and the latest in advanced cancer treatments including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and, in the future, proton beam therapy across all centres. Every patient that comes to a Rutherford Cancer Centre is provided with a personalised and tailored treatment plan and their own support team. As part of the ‘Rutherford’s networked, centralised system’, patients can attend any of the centres according to their needs, with the option to attend the care oncology clinic at one centre and travel to another for treatment as necessary. The Thames Valley Rutherford Centre situated just outside Reading is the nearest centre to our region.

Dr Sheikh Moeen Ul Haq is a specialist in Palliative medicine and has worked alongside Clinical Oncologist both in the UK and abroad for over 25 years . His special interest is in Symptom management in patients with advanced cancer, focusing primarily on the enhancement of the quality of life of patients. Symptoms such as pain, fatigue and breathlessness are common in cancer patients and if ignored can reduce the quality of life of patients. The Palliative medicine treatments and services work alongside cancer treatments and are integrated with it in such a way as to provide the patient with the best holistic approach to care.

He has a clinic [face to face or virtual] at the Rutherford Cancer Centre Thames Valley Tuesday mornings. 10am-1pm, as well as a London practice providing Specialist palliative medicine advice to patients in both an out-patient and inpatient setting.

All supportive care services for cancer patients of the Rutherford are complimentary.

The Cancer Support Network has been established to support people living in and around Berkshire that are affected by cancer.

Meeting other people with similar experiences can be invaluable. Self-help and support groups offer a chance for people to talk to others and come together to share experiences and concerns.
