About this Event
Hillingdon PSC will show two appealing short films, followed by a discussion with the Director and other speakers.
El Yajour:
This short film is about a town in historical Palestine near Haifa city, situated in Al Karmel mountain. Mr. Jihhad's family were forced to leave their home town in 1948 and ended up in Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon where he was born. Mr. Jihhad has never had a proper home and has found himself becoming an asylum seeker in the UK. The film allows us to see Mr. Jihhad's ambitions and hopes.
Screened at the Glasgow and Diaspora Manchester Film Festivals.
Arthur Balfour and Me:
Arthur Balfour was born in 1848 on the family’s Scottish Estate in East Lothian. In 1916, he was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Fatima, then a 35 year old asylum seeker living in Scotland, travels to Balfour’s Estate. Arthur Balfour and Me is a visual and emotional journey through history and present time, an untold story about how a politician’s action has, to this day, affected Fatima’s life, as a young woman from the Middle East.
Nominated for a BAFTA (2007). Shown at the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Diaspora Manchester, Iran and Palestine Film Festivals.
