About this Event

Nottingham Palestine Film Festival is excited to be part of of the "Palestine Cinema Days 2025" (Around the World 2025 | Filmlab:Palestine ). As international news outlets, world leaders, and major social media platforms continue to censor and distort the narrative while fueling the dehumanisation of Palestinians and their ongoing suffering, we are using our channels to support the forcibly canceled Palestine Cinema Days Festival.

On November 2, the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, we are organizing over 500 Palestinian film screenings around the world. This global effort is a show of solidarity with Palestine, an act of amplification for censored Palestinian voices, and a contribution to shifting the distorted narrative.
We are screening 'The Dupes' (1972), a powerful political drama based on the novella Men in the Sun by Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani. It follows the tragic journey of three Palestinian refugees - Abu Qais, Assad, and Marwan - each from a different generation, who are desperate to escape the harsh conditions of refugee camps in Lebanon and seek a better life in Kuwait. They pay a smuggler to transport them across the desert hidden inside a water tanker. As they approach the Kuwaiti border under the blazing sun, the smuggler fails to open the tanker in time. The three men die inside, suffocated by the heat. The film ends with the haunting question:

"Why didn’t they knock on the walls of the tank?"

* All proceeds go to support the first Gaza International Festival of Women’s Cinema (GIFWC)
"In the midst of unimaginable loss and destruction, Gazans defy the genocide and find ways to express their humanity and determination to survive. Despite the enormity of the obstacles, people continue to want to create and communicate - to give their lives dignity and meaning. During the most filmed genocide ever, we have all experienced the power of the moving image. Now this power will be harnessed to make women's voices heard above the noise of violence and war."
