About this Event
With fiber artist extraordinaire, Valery Guignon!
Every want to try painting on silk satin? Well, Valery does it for a living and has all the materials. She can guide you while you have time to do your own experiment in silk painting.
First we will experiment on scraps of silk. You’ll find colors you want to work with and shapes and “textures” you want to develop into a design. You’ll learn how the dye runs and how adding water
blends colors. I’ll teach about Guta – a quick drying resist – that will keep the liquid dyes in spaces rather than blend with the other colors and simple candle wax melted into the silk to resist the liquid dye. I’ll show how easy it is to set these dyes with a hot Iron.
After you choose your colors and brushes there’s nothing to do but start. We cant wait to see what you come up with! Expect surprises.
Class will be 2 hours. Instructor will supply poster board, pins, brushes, newspaper, palates, guta, blow dryer, markers, sponges, iron, wax, fabric dye crayons.
Students can bring their own natural fiber scarves, light weight natural fiber fabrics, dyes, acrylic paint, design ideas, apron, dish washing gloves (dyes dye all natural fiber i.e. hands) rags to sop up spills,
scissors,
Contact us with questions – like – how do I tell if a scarf is natural fiber or synthetic?
