In this workshop, students will learn:- How to manipulate soft pastels and watercolor on pastel paper to create an English country garden scene.
- How and when to layer color for maximum impact. Some color theory is employed in this technique.
- How to create depth with watercolor painted under pastels.
- In addition to these techniques the class will learn from each other how each student approached their process to create a successful painting.
Our first project will be created on a small practice paper for exploration, from there students will employ best practices to create an additional painting. Students will walk away with two completed projects in a small size and one painting in 9” x 12”.
Students will bring or buy a small watercolor set, a #6 or #8 round watercolor brush, sanded board or paper 9" x 12" (light color), and any pastels they have. Mary Jane will also provide pastels.
