Welcome!Interested in joining Clarkston Pack 163? Find out all about us!
We're hosting an evening by the campfire where kids can come meet and parents can learn all about Clarkston Cub Scout Pack 163
6:30pm at the Calvary Lutheran Church Fire Pit (back of parking lot).
We welcome boys and girls from all over Clarkston to come have fun with Cub Scouts.
Pack 163 is a group of Volunteer parents that provide fun and educational programming to boys and girls K-5 primarily from Independence Elementary, Clarkston Elementary, and Andersonville Elementary in Clarkston, MI, but also has Scouts from the surrounding elementary schools (Pine Knob, Andersonville, Bailey Lake) and towns.
We have lots of fun activities throughout the year, including: pinewood derby; parade float building; hikes; learning about the outdoors, animals, science, and technology; sports; and visiting local police and fire stations, to name a few. (This year that will look a little different, but we hope to be back to our normal fun and engaging activities next year!)
Scouts participate at the level they want/can (not the end of the world if some meetings are missed). We have many busy families, and leaders work with parents to make sure Scouts don't get too far behind. During this time, we plan on having some in-person activities, as well as offering Scouting 100% distance / virtual.
The pack activities are family-oriented, with siblings welcome on most pack outings, activities, and camping trips.
You can reach all of the leaders at [email protected]
Please take a minute and fill out this form, so we can send information to you and your child about Pack 163: https://forms.gle/GPtpPTBPR3BdyFzH9

Once we have your application, we can get you signed up for our Facebook group, emails, and other fun things!
When and where we meet
Scouts typically meet twice monthly on Tuesdays, one den meeting (with same-grade level scouts) and one Pack meeting (everyone together). Pack meetings this year will be online, and are scheduled for 3rd or 4th Tuesday of the month and start at 6:30pm, and typically are done before 7:30pm (we try to keep in mind younger kids).
Our "home base" where we meet most of the time is at Calvary Lutheran Church on Bluegrass Dr, (we are non-denominational group that accepts all people).
Our Pack Calendar has all of our meetings: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/b/1?cid=Y2xhcmtzdG9ucGFjazE2M0BnbWFpbC5jb20
Fees
New scouts pay dues of $160. This covers the Scout from September 2021 - December 2022, and covers their registration costs, insurance, council activity fees, and Pack fees with the larger BSA organization. If you pay registration online, that payment is subtracted from the $160. We accept payment in cash or check (made to Clarkston Cub Scout Pack 163). If you would like to receive Scout Life magazine (a magazine with jokes, games, stories, and fun articles about Scouting) the cost is only $1 / month. If you are joining after December 2021, the dues are prorated for the remaining months of 2022.
If you are experiencing hardship, but would still like your child to participate in Scouts, please privately reach out to us, and we can discreetly address your concerns and find a path to get your child in Scouts!
Through Scout participation in fundraising (Popcorn Sales) we are able to cover all other activity fees for the Scouts. Meaning Campouts, outings, overnights, and all awards and achievement are free for the registered Scouts!
What to get
Nothing is needed right away, except for your Scout to come and have fun! If you'd like your Cub Scout to have a uniform, they are available online and at local Scout Shops (the closest is Troy Scout Shop, 1155 E Long Lake Rd, Troy).
Most Scouts just get a uniform shirt (short sleeve) and the required patches, and a neckerchief, anything beyond that is at your discretion. We understand that uniforms are expensive. If you need assistance in acquiring a uniform for your Scout, please reach out to a leader, and we can discreetly find a way to help.
New Scouts will receive a Pack T-shirt! We will be placing an order for additional stylish Pack apparel.
Scouts will also need a handbook that correlates to their rank (Kindergarten - Lion, 1st - Tiger, etc..). The staff at the Scout Shop can help you get the right one.
