Pacific Symphony, under the direction of conductor Dr. Jacob Sustaita, continues to enchant audiences with its dynamic performances and innovative programming. Celebrating its 45th anniversary, the Symphony has established itself as the largest orchestra formed in the U.S. in the last 50 years, gaining recognition on both national and international stages. Soka Performing Arts Center is proud to be the home of the Pacific Symphony Chamber Orchestra.
Dr. Jacob Sustaita, serving as the assistant conductor of Pacific Symphony since 2020, brings a wealth of experience and energy to the podium. His leadership extends beyond Pacific Symphony, as he also directs the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Orange County School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Sustaita’s distinguished career includes notable positions such as the Director of Orchestral Studies at Sam Houston State University and assistant conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of America, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the craft.
Joining the performance is Amaryn Olmeda, a rising star and winner of the first prize at the 24th Annual Sphinx Competition. Olmeda has garnered critical acclaim for her commanding stage presence, infallible technique, and interpretive ability, which already rival those of seasoned international concert stage veterans. Her recent highlights include debut performances with prominent orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, and Chicago Sinfonietta, as well as a celebrated recording debut with Deutsche Grammophon.
Pacific Symphony’s impressive history includes a debut at Carnegie Hall and a celebrated tour of China, reflecting its commitment to cultural exchange and artistic excellence. The Symphony’s dedication to community engagement and education is evident in its extensive programs, which reach over 300,000 people annually, from school children to senior citizens.
This concert promises an evening of emotional depth and musical brilliance. Under Dr. Sustaita’s baton, the program begins with Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, known for its elegant structure and lyrical beauty. Following this, Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 will captivate with its rich melodies and expressive depth, showcasing the technical prowess of the soloist.
