Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles (PAC LA), with the support of Eastman Museum LA, is pleased to present “Women Collectors” on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00am. Galerie XII will host the dynamic panel discussion featuring Alison Bryan Crowell, Paula Ely, and Sarah Kissell, with moderation by the esteemed photography dealer Jennifer DeCarlo of jdc Fine Art.
With different approaches to collecting and at different stages of their collecting journeys, the three panelists will share their motivations, methods, and responsibilities as custodians of photographic art. This interactive discussion will welcome audience questions as the panel explores what it means to be a collector. “Women Collectors” will kick-off PAC LA’s “Year of the Woman,” a series of free public events celebrating notable women in fine art photography.

For the inaugural "Year of the Woman" event, "Women Collectors," moderator Jennifer DeCarlo will guide a multigenerational panel—each person at a distinct phase in her evolution as a collector—exploring why each participant chose photography as their medium and how they approach collecting. Panelist Alison Bryan Crowell began her collecting with plein air paintings, before transitioning to photography of the American West, with guidance from Getty curator Judy Keller. Crowell’s broad and thoughtful collection features many well known contemporary and classic photographers. Also featured is former PAC LA president, Paula Ely, known for her impressive collection of Latin American photography. Completing the panel is Sarah Kissell, an emerging collector whose bold attitude toward collecting brings a unique perspective to the discussion.
PAC LA has dedicated a full year of programming to its central theme—”Year of the Woman”—with events spanning throughout 2025 and extending into early 2026. These offerings will highlight the contributions of women across different sectors of photography—curators, collectors, authors, artists, gallerists, and conservators—through events held both in-person at venues across Los Angeles and online.
