Delighted to share Pablo with you again this February, and to experience his top-notch teaching with you! Pablo is known and loved for the brilliant, efficient way he teaches points of technique and communication that give tremendous insight – I am still having epiphanies myself in his classes!
Here's the line-up of workshops, and you can read more about Pablo below that:
Friday, February 14, 7:00 pm – 9:00 ~
“All about the embrace”
Celebrate connection on Valentine’s Day with an all levels class on embrace. Pablo will share his experience for a fluid connection in open and close embrace dancing.
Saturday, February 15, both workshops Intermediate level:
Saturday, 12 noon – 1:30 ~
“Milonga”
The class will focus on style and nuances to refine your milonga as well as some of Pablo’s favorite moves from the golden age.
Saturday, 2 pm – 3:30 ~
“Vals”
Turn, loop, repeat, flow. Known for his fluidity and dynamics, Pablo will focus the vals class on turning combinations in both directions.
Sunday, Feb. 16, both workshops Intermediate/Advanced level:
Sunday, 12 noon – 1:30 ~
“Boleos and Sacadas in Combination”
Work on different ways to bring together these fun pieces of tango vocabulary. The class will focus on understanding technique and proper execution.
Sunday, 2 pm – 3:30 ~
“My favorite old moves”
In this class Pablo will share some of his favorite moves that he learned with his parents (Esther and Mingo). The historical context will open the discussion for original ways of integrating moves from the past into today's dancing.
You don't need a partner for any of the workshops. Some dancers will, however, come with partners. Usually about half the class is working in couples, and the other half of the class is rotating cheerfully with each other. We will arrange a few guests to balance the class for the single dancers.

Pablo Pugliese brings deep knowledge of the history and culture of tango as well as the latest updates and techniques, and is known for transmitting a tremendous amount of helpful information to his students in a fun way.
Pablo began his study of the Argentine Tango in 1989 with his parents, Esther and Mingo, who were two of the central figures in the contemporary history of Argentine tango, having taught an entire generation of social dancers, as well as some of the most prestigious tango professionals in the world today. Pablo started performing tango professionally at age 10, toured and taught in the U.S., Europe, and Japan by age 15, and then lived in New York for several years, studying at Alvin Ailey and teaching popular classes at Dance Manhattan Studios.
Now, Pablo and his wife and partner Noel live and teach in Montreal, and we are lucky to have them visit in winter and summer <3 On this visit, since their daughter is in school, Noel will stay in Montreal, but Pablo will represent them in their traditional winter visit to New York – and I hope they'll both be able to visit in summer.
If you don't know him yet, I'm happy to explain that I've known Pablo since he was 11, and have been learning from him almost that long :) His parents, Esther and Mingo Pugliese, were two of my most important teachers, and indeed they taught many gorgeous and well-known dancers of my generation, and were very influential in the great revival of tango that began in 1985. From his mother, Esther, especially, I learned the technique I still use even after being exposed to many subsequent technique teachings. From his father, Mingo, I learned the understanding of tango structure that I still use to parse many complex combinations easily as they are being shown, discussed, compared – and to create my own as I dance. I'm very grateful for the clarity their pedagogy offered! Pablo was one my very favorite people to dance with already when he was 12, and has continued to impress over the years both with his dancing and his teaching. He is a culture-bearer who has continued to extend and develop his own dancing in his own way, and who understands through decades of careful observation, what pace and what kind of teaching methods work best for his students.
