Did you know there will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th? A solar eclipse is when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun – a total solar eclipse means all sunlight will be blocked and day will turn to night! This rare event hasn’t happened since 1979, and won’t happen again until 2044, so we’ve stocked up on glasses through which we can safely view the eclipse together.
Our camp will take inspiration from celestial bodies like the Sun, Moon and Planets, while also reflecting on land-based practices emerging from our current exhibitions and deepening our understanding of art-making materials through experimentation. Coincidentally, the migration of Monarch butterflies follows the same path as the eclipse – so we’ll be sure to include some butterfly-themed projects in our camp, as well.
The eclipse will take place between 3:00-3:30pm, so make sure you’re ready to experience this exciting phenomenon! We'll have eclipse-safe glasses on hand for everyone.
Please note: If courses are purchased at member price, and membership is not active, you will be charged for the membership.
ART MATERIALS: Included with registration fee.
WHAT TO WEAR: Clothing appropriate for messy work in the studio – something that nobody would mind if it got stained. Consider an over-sized shirt for regular use when making art before, during and after camp. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory.
WHAT TO BRING: Snacks and a lunch that are nut-free, a change of clothes, a large box or bag to bring art home, weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor breaks.
HOW TO GET IN: Access our building via the Brock Lobby doors - the doors adjacent to our parking lot. We will have a parking pass ready for you inside. Please note that the Lakeshore doors do not open until 10:00 AM on Tuesday-Friday, and will remain locked on Mondays when the gallery is closed to the general public.
ALLERGIES OR SPECIAL NEEDS: Please remember to notify us on your registration form if the student has an allergy, health concern or disability that could impact participation in the class. We want to ensure the best possible experience and are happy to accommodate a wide variety of access needs.
PLEASE NOTE: Our building is scent-free, so please avoid use of fragrances when coming in for camp.
**Parents will be required to sign a safety waiver providing permission for their children to participate in supervised outdoor activities during the solar eclipse as a condition of enrolling in this PA Day Camp**
