Learn about the history and basics of the sport of dragon boating in this presentation led by South San Francisco's Oyster Point Dragons (OPD). Formed in 2012, OPD is the only dragon boat team ever to be based out of Oyster Point Marina. This paddling team consists of a diverse group of individuals, ages 13 to 78, including strong athletes, and cancer and heart attack survivors. The team's vision is to expand and promote the sport of dragon boating as a health promotion program, an approach to leadership development, and a team building technique for schools, corporations, and communities in South San Francisco and the Bay Area in general. Find out about their various community-focused programs and how to get involved, plus get an up-close look at some of the drums and other equipment used on the boats! This presentation is open to all ages. The paddling program is open to anyone ages 12 and above.
