About this Event
This guided kayak tour will provide a fascinating insight into the local oyster population and the essential role they play in maintaining the ecological balance of the salt marsh. During this tour we'll visit wild and restored oyster reefs and get to speak to coastal scientists in the field while they are sampling. This beautiful area is a great way to learn more about the oyster ecosystem.
This program does NOT meet at Bald Head Island Conservancy. Please meet at the Village Creek Access on Federal Road, near Old Baldy. All gear including PFDs, paddles, and kayaks will be provided. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, and shoes/clothes that can get muddy and slightly damp.
All children 18 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Kayaking is not recommended for children under the age 14 with no experience. Trips are rated as moderately difficult due to the sun, tides, and wind on the marsh. Conditions may vary depending on the day, and trips will not run in storms or high winds exceeding 15 mph.
This is a donation-based program and reservations are required for this program.
