Volunteers are needed! Registration required.Pinellas County will be installing the next phase of the living shoreline enhancement at Philippe Park in April. To prepare, we will be creating oyster bags to place along the northeastern seawall. We will have several events, and even though we'd love to see your shining faces at them all, pick the day and time that works best for you for this event! The options are 8AM-10AM, 10AM-12PM, or both!
Minors 14+ are welcome. All participants will need to fill out a Liability Release Form in order to participate which will be available the day of the event. Bright Futures forms can be signed by County personnel if brought to the event.
Please note this activity can be labor intensive. We will be shoveling loose oyster shell into mesh bags. Please wear appropriate clothing (and closed-toe shoes) that can get dirty, and bring plenty of water. Event details will be emailed to registered participants prior to the event.
The GOALS of this project are:
*To improve water quality and provide additional aquatic habitat for wading birds, fish, and other organisms.
*To provide extra protection for the shoreline.
*To educate park visitors about living shorelines.
Funding for this project is provided by Pinellas County and Tampa Bay Environmental Restoration Fund grant.
