A new local venue for this walk. Please note that it’s on a Saturday for a change. We will take a walk beside the River Ouse and scope out the woodland and flooded gravel pits. We hope to see the Barnacle Geese that favour these meadows, Kingfisher and a range of water and woodland birds, including winter thrushes, expected.
Facilities: None on site but Danish Camp cafe, The Crown pub and garden centre cafes in the village.
Distances and accessibility: A circuit of 3 miles. Mostly tarmac path but a short distance on a compacted gravel track which may have a few potholes. We have the option to add a short loop through woodland which can be muddy but you can stay on the tarmac path instead
Parking: Parking in Station Road and Chapel Lane, Willington. Note: please do not use the Danish Camp car park, which belongs to the cafe of that name, unless you are planning to eat there
Public transport: Rail: nearest station is Sandy then pick up buses to Bedford that pass through Willington. There’s a 5 mile cycle route from Sandy along the old railway bed to Danish Camp
Admission charges: No admission charge.
Meeting point: At 10am outside The Crown, 17 Station Rd, Willington MK44 3QH. What3Words: nourished.consults.ditching. Grid reference: TL113500 . Finish by 1pm
