Join us for a captivating evening at Tommy Thompson Park as we explore the mysterious world of owls in the Greater Toronto Area. Discover their haunting calls, incredible nighttime adaptations, and the vital role they play in our ecosystems during a short, interactive presentation.
Then, step into the field with TRCA’s Bander-in-Charge for a rare behind-the-scenes look at our active owl monitoring program. The Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station team will be working to safely capture and band wild migrating owls – a key part of ongoing conservation efforts.
While owl sightings can't be guaranteed, there is a good chance of seeing one up close during the banding demonstration. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness science in action and possibly meet one of these elusive nocturnal birds face-to-face!
Note: Owls are wild animals and their appearance is never guaranteed, but our monitoring efforts during this event make sightings likely.

Event Details
Event Date: Saturday, October 18
Timeslots: Choose between 6:30pm to 8:00pm OR 8:30pm to 10:00pm
Location: Tommy Thompson Park, 1 Leslie St. Meet your event leader at the Nature Centre, which is located approximately ~7-minute walk from the main entrance of the park.
Ticket Price: Tickets for this event are $20.00 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees).

Parking/Transit Info: Free, public parking is available at the main entrance of the park, directly adjacent to the park pavilion. The entrance to the lot is on Unwin Ave, just west of Leslie St. If taking transit, take the 83 Jones bus to Commissioners St. The Nature Centre is ~15 minute walk from the bus stop.
Cancellation Policy: The event will run rain or shine but will be cancelled if there is a chance of thunderstorms or other hazardous weather. Registrants will be emailed by 3:00pm on the day of the event if there is a cancellation. Please direct any questions regarding the cancellation policy for this event to [email protected].

Be Prepared
- Please dress appropriately for a fall evening. Temperatures drop significantly once the sun sets, so don't forget to bring a toque, scarf, and gloves!
- Ensure you wear comfortable close-toed shoes for the outdoor portion of the program.
- Flush washrooms are located at the main entrance of the park, so please plan accordingly.
- Bring a personal water bottle and snacks, if needed.
- Wildlife-safe red lights will be provided.
