MAGASIN 4 PRESENTS :OVO (IT) (Slude / Industrial / Noise)
Following "Miasma" (February 2020) and the chaos afterwards OvO felt the need of an album that would be different from the others, that would have new elements, some of which might be refined in the future, but also the need to continue the discourse that began with "Miasma". Infact, if on one hand the band continues to evolve as it has always done over its career of more than twenty years on the other hand the "Miasma" Tour was greatly compromised by the fact that the album came out right after the start of the pandemic leaving the band with the desire to continue performing those songs during the next tour. The new album will contain only two tracks both lasting over twenty minutes. In this sense the album could be described as doom or sludge but with OvO nothing is ever that simple.
The electronic elements that have been present over recent years are still there and play important roles in both pieces. Above all however the lyrics are composed of complete sentences in Italian, a thing which rarely happened in the past. Stefania Pedretti took her inspiration from science fiction and horror classics (Lovecraft, Dick, Bradbury, Butler, Barker, Mary Shelley, Stoker, Poe, Bierce...) bringing out the more esoteric side. The musical language dilates (and for this reason this album will most likely remain unique in OvO's discography) whereas the lyrical side is enriched with explicit meaning compared to the past where the lyrics where left up to interpretation.
YUR MUM (BR) (Post-Punk / Grunge / Post-Hardcore)
2023 was full of high notes for Yur Mum. From an epic set at Rebellion Festival to sharing the stage with the likes of Ruts DC, Skids, Sham 69, Jamie Lenman, InMe, Mondo Generator, Wonk Unit and The Meffs. The Brazilian duo played 45 shows across the UK and Europe.
Duality will be their follow up LP since Tropical Fuzz, released in 2021. “Duality, as a concept, truly represents our music, as well as the band. We’re a duo; female meets male; Europe meets South America; Rock meets Brazilian music. We’re embracing our differences and blending them together to try to create something that stands out.” Says Anelise.
BABY FIRE (BE) (Post-Punk / Doom / Melancholic Rock)
Baby Fire is a haunted rock band from Brussels formed around songwriter & lyricist Dominique Van Cappellen-Waldock. It combines the energy of post-punk with feminine sensitivity. The strings are rough, the melodies catchy, the voices enthrall. Baby Fire has collaborated with Eugene Robinson (Oxbow), Mike Moya (GY!BE) and Eve Libertine & Penny Rimbaud (Crass), among other artists
TZII (BE) (Electronic / Experimental / Abstract)
Tzii, music composer and filmmaker, spreads his frequencies all over the world through touring from Eastern and Western Europe to Australia, passing by USA, Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Africa, Central America and South-East Asia, where he played hundreds of shows..…“A mountain of multiple figures” as defined by Nyx
His main aim is to bring the auditors to dirty paradises and to do so he explores infinite different worlds and expressions, from music to performance or collective creations in order to diffuse the sound of tropical apocalypse through roaring fire in dry babylon to cure the disease of rationality under the burning naked sun.
MADAME PATATE (BE) (Experimental / Ambient)
MADAME PATATE has been scouring European clubs since 1997 with eclectic sounds ranging from RAVE to ambient expé, from IDM to electro. Post-punk and weird pop, electronic and acoustic music, classy and unclassifiable tracks, music from the real world and the world of fantasy, a zero-carbon journey from one end of the world to the other, from one era to another, perennial hits rub shoulders with underground gems in a joyful, motley mix of styles.
