A book discussion of OVERNIGHT CODE: The Life of Raye Montague, the Woman Who Revolutionized Naval Engineering.
About this Event

Join the Georgia Tech Library both in-person and online Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. for an author’s talk with Paige Bowers and David Montague about their book , which will be released in paperback on October 4.
This event will be moderated by Alison Law, former host of the “Literary Atlanta” podcast and staff member of the Decatur Book Festival. It will be hosted in the Library’s first-floor Scholar’s Event Network Theater, located in Price Gilbert Memorial Library. Special thanks to the Georgia Tech College of Computing and Women in Engineering Program for their partnership of this event.
OVERNIGHT CODE is the inspiring story of Raye Montague, a groundbreaking Black female engineer who created the first computer-designed ship for the U.S. Navy. From auspicious beginnings in segregated Little Rock, she spent a lifetime educating herself, both inside and outside of the classroom, so that she could become the person and professional she aspired to be.

About the Authors

Paige Bowers is the author of two biographies about barrier-breaking women in history and a nationally published news and features writer whose work has appeared in TIME, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, People, Allure, Glamour, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Atlanta Magazine. She lives in the Atlanta area with her family, which includes a Yellow Lab who believes he is a lap dog.

Dr. David R. Montague, the son of Raye Montague, is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Student Success, at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is a tenured full professor of criminal justice. Montague volunteers as a reserve police officer in Bryant Arkansas, participates in a university prisoner rehabilitation program, and has served on several discipline-related and community boards. He earned a PhD at Howard University in Political Science, an MA at The George Washington University in Crime and Commerce, and a BA at Morehouse College in Political Science. He lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.

About the Moderator

Alison Law is a writer and communications professional living in Atlanta. An unapologetic book pusher and author enabler, she has interviewed more than 100 writers in Zoom rooms and recording studios and before live audiences at venues such as the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, the Atlanta History Center, and the Margaret Mitchell House. She hosted the “Literary Atlanta” podcast from 2017 to 2019 and served in programming and media relations roles for the Decatur Book Festival.
