The Chosen Generation and Lionheart Ministries are proud to come together again with the many different businesses and ministries of our community to promote overdose awareness. The theme for this year is ONE BIG FAMILY, DRIVEN BY HOPE!This theme makes me beyond excited because the Bible explain to us in Ephesians 4:3-6 KJV“
Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
This tells us that we have to come together as one family to fight addiction and find the hope of Heaven, because there is only ONE!
I have a personal history in the world of addiction, and I am living proof that you do not have to stay stuck in that lifestyle forever. There is HOPE and there is a chance for a new FUTURE! My favorite verse in the bible is
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV,
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Allowing Christ into my life was the best decision that I ever made and has allowed me to opportunity to live 11 years of sobriety as that new creature in Christ.
In the previous years we have hosted this event, we had no idea that God would allow it to become what it did. We saw an opportunity for an event that we believed would be beneficial EVEN IF we only reached one person through all of our efforts! BUT GOD allowed it to be so much more than that. Many businesses and ministries joined us on this day. We saw people delivered; people share hope to others through their testimonies; we were blessed to COME TOGETHER and provide MANY different services including a free meal thanks to another local church. All this was possible through CHRIST and the kindness of each group that participated. GOD went above and beyond that which we could have ever anticipated. My vision for this was small, but we are blessed that God allowed the increase and the ability for us to host this event again for the THIRD year.
When God spoke to me about the event the first year, he was very clear that my job was to see people where they were at. Let them know that we SEE them, we LOVE them and let them know of all the available resources in the county if they are in need. Christ led me to my HOPE and my FUTURE. My hope is to share my testimony and help every person that I meet find freedom in Christ. However, God showed me that my job is to sow seeds, and he is always the one to give the increase. My job is to go out in the community and share his love and give back. If they decide that day to come and serve the LORD, we will SHOUT and PRAISE. But if they decide to wait, we will still pray, love, and let them know we are ALWAYS here for them.
Overdose rates have only CLIMBED higher since last year and the amount of violence in our city. There are many resources available to the members of our community, some known and some not. BUT each of those businesses and ministries can only accomplish so much on their own. My VISION this year and going forward is that we come together STRONGER than ever before and FIGHT for change in our city, FIGHT for the lives of those who can't fight for themselves, and change the atmosphere of the community we live in.
We hope and pray you will join us this year for our 3rd annual Overdose Awareness Event Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at 11am.
