Come along to this full day felting workshop and learn how to create a tall landscape featuring hills or mountains in the distance. Learn how to create depth in your felted picture. Create a piece that looks like you could walk right into it.I will teach you how to use colours and felting techniques that will help you to create depth in a long landscape artwork. In this full day workshop you can create your own picture with rolling hills/mountains. The photos show examples of pieces I have made in the past, your piece will be unique to you.
In the morning you’ll be able to select your own palette of wool colours plus learn how to layer textures into your landscape to create intrigue.
Bring a photo from you travels for inspiration or have a look through the photo books that I bring along. Creating a long narrow artwork allows you to play with many ideas in small sections creating various stripes of landscape throughout your picture.
This workshop will mainly focus on wet felting but there will be an hour at the end to add needle felted details.
There will be a 45 min break in the middle of the day for lunch. You may bring a packed lunch or order buy one from the cafes/ Co op / bakeries nearby.
After lunch wet felt the layers of textures and wool together using hot soapy water, agitation, rolling and throwing This process takes about 45 mins of using your hands and requires some arm strength. These classes are limited to 4 students so I can help people a bit with the rolling if needed.
Learn how to use the felting needles to add spots, dots and swirls to your felted backgrounds. Once you are comfortable with the needles, I will show you how to easily needle felt wildlife and realistic details to finish your picture.
The piece will be approximately 60 x 30 cm once felted and I will show you different ways to hang it in your home.
Please bring a small towel and apron
We will be using wool fibres and fairy liquid soap, please bring gloves if you are intolerant to either.
