Want to learn to play jazz in a group or learn more about jazz theory? David and Linda are offering a jazz ensemble workshop this fall and all next year through Nanaimo Parks and Recreation. The workshop is for seniors (60+) and will be weekly at the Kin Hut in Departure Bay. Register by calling Nanaimo Parks and Rec at 250-756-5200 - You will have to purchase an annual senior’s membership for $47 but after that it’s free. It’s called the Jazz Ensemble and Workshop – course number 151977 for this fall, September to December, and number 151982 for all next year, 2026. The goal is to learn to play jazz of all kinds, master chords, scales and arpeggios, comping and improvisation. The ability to read music would be helpful, but not required and you should have some reasonable ability with your instrument. Almost any type of instrument can be used in the workshop and singers are welcome. There will be a dropbox provided for workshop materials.
