about the workshop:
physical capoeira
the workshop is a movement training and practical performative research. physical capoeira is a combination of different capoeira styles, dances, martial arts, physical theater, partnering, scenic group work and contemplative body work. traditional elements are adapted for a contemporary artistic context with regard to scenic work. the workshop is open to people with a passion for movement and dance. instead of a certain technical level or previous education, it requires concentration, vigilance, interest and enthusiasm for the collective experience. the mediated content is also the result of around 20 years of personal research supplemented by scientific and academic work.
about the teacher:
florian hoffmeier has >15 years of education in capoeira, with further educations in dance, other martial arts, physical theatre and somatic bodyworks. he is also a qualified physician (md) with work experience in the field of psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy. he holds a doctorate (dr.) on exercise physiology in professional stage dance from goethe university frankfurt. for the past 15 years, on stage and behind, he has been involved in a variety of cultural and artistic projects. originally with a strong focus on socio-cultural education, more recently he has also been creating and performing his own artistic works. he has been teaching physical capoeira to lay persons and performing artists internationally and is a board member of the gandhiserve foundation, which internationally promotes ideas of peace and nonviolence.
