DESCRIPTION:
Most people would think that Outer Harbour, the mouth of the Port River, is just an industrialised and ugly part of Adelaide. However it is a location of great contrasts.
Look in one direction and you do see the container ships wharf and the industry of the harbour in action.
Look in other directions and you see nature in a myriad of forms. One of these is Bird Island a hidden treasure of the Port River.
Bird Island is a sand spit that runs off the north end of the Outer Harbour breakwater. I have been watching it grow for the last 20 years.
It is now covered with flora and a most important bird breeding zone particularly for pelicans. A pelican chick is something you just have to see!
The Outer Harbour breakwater is also home to seals and sea lions.
This event is about exploring this unique area, circumnavigation the Outer harbour Breakwater and having lunch on nearby North Haven beach.
Suitable for all moderately fit paddlers. A sea kayak is recommended.
Note that ratios/quotas will apply, depending on the number of Instructors or Leaders on a trip. We may take pictures of the trip and mention your name on our website. If you have any concerns about this, let the trip leader know.
