After a bereavement, she re-enters the dating sphere with predictably hilarious results, while facing the demands of motherhood and middle age. As ever, the script is honest and humane, with the laughs arising from character and from Zellwegger’s beguiling performance, and the film develops into an uplifting acknowledgment of life’s challenges and the good humoured resilience needed to meet them.
