About this Event
In the wake of so many climate dissasters impacting our communities--from the LA Fires to Hurricane Helen and beyond--it's time more than ever to reexamine our relationship with nature. QUEER ECOLOGY--the study of everything in nature that subverts western cultural expectations about how the world *should* work--is here to help.
The natural world does not subscribe to any particular human culture, it exists as a beautifully diverse tapestry of ways to survive and thrive--individualistic or communal; patriarchal or matriarchal; heterosexual, homosexual, or in the case of most flowers, bisexual. We will observe, share, and learn about nature in ways that reflect our own diversity, and connect to it on a whole new beautiful level.
It's that connection that will show us the way forward, how we treat nature as an ally instead of an adversary, and how we mitigate the damage western culture has already done to Mother Nature. We need a future that is deeply intertwined with the nature, just like the roots of the plants below our feet.
