How do you feel about our High Street? The Civic Society is organising a talk on March 3 to reflect on the current state and future of Tonbridge's High Street.
In recent years, the growth of out-of-town and online shopping, plus the escalating costs of parking, has completely changed the landscape of our high streets. So, how is Tonbridge doing? It seems busy, but we know it’s a challenging time for our small businesses and even the busy ones are struggling.
Do you think our High Street is thriving, or does it feel tired? In recent years we’ve lost many shops and hospitality businesses (such as Beales, Monsoon, Poundstretchers, Beer Seller, Gate House and the Bakehouse) but we’ve also gained some great new businesses (such as Bridge Deli, Iru Sushi, Nutley’s Barbers, The Market House and Morrisons). We’ve lost banks, but gained a Banking Hub (expected to open in its permanent high street location soon).
The evening will start with a short talk from local estate agent and podcaster Jack Nutley. He will share how he feels about our High Street and its importance in attracting people to our town.
Jack will then join other interested parties to answer questions and chat about the challenges they face and what they love about our High Street and community.
Come along to listen and maybe ask questions.
Usually we charge non members to attend our events but we have decided to open up this event to the whole Tonbridge community free of charge. There is no need to tell us you are coming - just turn up in the night. There is the option to make a donation on our event page (using the ticket link)
Please note doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
