Dr Geoff Sallis will explain why the pollution of our rivers is such a serious problem and what we can do about it on the River Avon.
About this Event

How polluted is the River Avon? Not a single river in England has received a clean bill of health. They are being polluted by a chemical cocktail of sewage, agricultural waste, and plastic, with sewage dumping by water companies rising 29-fold over the past five years. Farm slurry and fertiliser run off is choking rivers with damaging algal blooms. The Environmental Agency has been gutted and defunded, and has almost ceased to prosecute perpetrators.

But how bad is the Avon? Who is causing the problem? And what can local people do? If you use the Avon for leisure activities, or just value our important river habitats, come to this talk to find out more and get involved.

Geoff Sallis is an environmental campaigner who lives in Tewkesbury. He has a special interest in water quality and citizen science water monitoring projects. He aims to connect people along the full length of the River Avon, to measure water quality and document the damage, so we can build a shared understanding of the problems and work together to push for more responsible behaviour from those entrusted with the health of our iconic river.
