Meet our speakers:
Mariia "Marichka" Bokovnia is a PR and marketing entrepreneur. Her journey embodies resilience, adaptability, and a passion for community engagement. Mariia's early career was marked by her involvement in the aviation festival scene, where she honed her public relations and marketing skills, laying the foundation for her future endeavours.
In 2022, Mariia began a new chapter by relocating from Ukraine to Canada. Despite the challenges of starting afresh in a foreign land, she quickly immersed herself in the Canadian business landscape. Mariia co-founded a marketing agency, leveraging her talents to assist local businesses in navigating the complexities of modern marketing. To immerse herself in her new home, she delved into Ottawa's music industry, hosting Sofar shows to connect with creative artists and deepen her ties to the city.
Mariia's philosophy background guides her through life's complexities, fueled by her passion for social change. She now serves as an outreach and program coordinator at the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, utilizing her communication and marketing expertise to foster connection and advocate for causes dear to her heart.
Charifa is an interdisciplinary artist and fashion designer based in Ottawa. Her artistic endeavors revolve around the themes of intergenerational transfer of culture, as well capturing the essence of the collective inspiration. Her belief that everyone is an artist motivates her to create interactive pieces and experiences where the audience gets to participate and add to her conception. Her exploration of human connectivity is manifested through different mediums such as hair, textile, videography, painting, and more.
Nickie Shobeiry uses storytelling excellence for good; a second-gen Iranian raised in the UK, she shares stories of joy and resilience from her culture.
As a filmmaker, Nickie has produced documentaries for Bell and CBC, and is a fellow of the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices. Her most recent CBC Creator Network doc, 'Good Nose', is her directorial debut, and a love-letter to Iranian noses.
As a journalist, she has bylines in publications like Shondaland and Ottawa Business Journal. Running her own communications business, Nickie works with clients in industries ranging from philanthropy to technology.
Her throughline? Social good through stories.
