About this Event
Join us!
You are concerned about Ottawa’s sustainability and believe that action by individuals, neighbourhoods, community organizations and businesses can make a real contribution.
Ottawa Biosphere Eco-city (OBEC) is a charity that has, since 2009, brought neighbours together to address their sustainability issues and to plan a more sustainable future for our city.
At our Annual General Meeting on 7 October, at the Mlacak Centre in Kanata, we will be renewing our board and is inviting you to join us, learn more about our activities and consider joining our team. You can also join the meeting on Zoom.
Mitchell Beer, publisher of the Energy Mix, is the guest speaker who will share his thoughts and recommendations from his long experience in the non-profit sector.
At the AGM we will also be discussing the new OBEC website, next steps in a Database of Sustainability Projects and the latest version of the Electrical System Simulation: a discussion tool to foster conversations among neighbours around changes coming to the provincial power system and their expectations of the electrical grid in Ontario.
Current projects include planning for
- a Sustainability Showcase in Ottawa in the spring of 2026
- a pilot project to use native plants to manage weeds on rural Ottawa roads (instead of pesticides and brush-hogging)
- a Database of Sustainability Projects in Ottawa –a toolto foster collaboration among community organizations, faith communities, businesses and service clubs to advance a more sustainable future for our city.
Join us for our AGM to participate in any of these projects, join our team or propose your own sustainability projects or collaborations.
OBEC is a member of Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES) in Ottawa and a member of Biosphere Eco-cities Canada (BECC) with chapters in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver and volunteers across the country.
