Other Half Witton Weavers Way (Challenge Trail Training)

This half route of the Witton Weavers Way is a 17 mile / 27km circular walk from Witton Country Park. This route takes us from the edge of Blackburn, over farmland and through pretty woodland to Hoghton Bottoms, before continuing South to Abbey Village, passing through woodland and next to reservoirs before climbing to Jubilee Tower above Darwen.
We walked the other half of the Witton Weavers Way (in the 1st block of Challenge Trail Training). The FULL Witton Weavers Way is a 33 mile route from Blackburn, which we will be doing on June 8th. Fancy joining us?
Expect moorland and farmland walking, woodland paths and reservoir tracks. There will be plenty of hills, many stiles and a fair bit off bog, as well as good tracks and some road. Total elevation: 632m / 2075ft.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be agile and able to get over stiles, and they will need to be on the lead on open access land to protect ground nesting birds.
This will be the fourth of our second block of CTT walks for 2024. (See below for further details about what CTT means...) The aim will be to complete this route within approx. 5.5 - 6 hours, including short rest / snack breaks.
Following the success of our first block of Challenge Trail Training this year we are adding another block of 5 walks on Sundays with increasing challenge with each one. These walks are aimed at those planning to join one of our long-distance Challenge Trails, who have reasonable fitness and are looking to build up to a pace of approx. 3 mph (5 kmph). However, you do NOT have to be booked on any of our Challenge Trails to join us!
CTT dates will be: 26th May, 16th Jun, 30th Jun, 14th July, 28th July.
