TonalTheory:
Marissa and Rae have been playing everywhere from clubs to warehouses in the District as Synthesis Residents. Their sets have always been signified by bending boundaries between hard-hitting industrial techno elements and mesmerizing synths and atmospheric melodies. They have played support for some of the biggest names in the industry of both techno and trance alike including Dubfire, Alan Fitzpatrick, Nicole Moudaber, Green Velvet, Sharam, Victor Calderone, John Askew, Greg Downey, David Rust, Fehrplay, and Triceradrops. The duo also hosts a monthly radio show, Undertone Radio, and hosts monthly parties for up and coming talent of underground music as Decibel Collective.
On the production side of things, they have a couple of releases through local labels, as they focused on promoting and supporting the local scene. Those labels include Funktrap Records, and ROAMANCE, which is the label launched by DC’s iconic underground music platform and crew, ROAM. They also have been connecting with their audience through their self-releases on Bandcamp, which includes their first artist album, How Could We Have Known, featuring 9 of their original productions with 2 remixes from Furtive and KJB. Recently, they have released two ravey, hard-hitting techno tracks with GRF Black, based in Turkey and Rated Records, based in UK, which marks their first international releases. In October they are set to release a 2-track EP with Ōtomo Trax based in France. They strive to merge the worlds as they incorporate their classical background into their newer productions as they continue to develop their sounds and try to conquer the unexpected rollercoaster of emotions as it captures the story of where we were, where we are, and where we want to be.
