The Otago Southland Secondary Schools Water Ski Championships will be held on Sunday 22nd February 2026 and is open to Otago and Southland secondary school pupils. The organising body is the Otago Water Ski Club, and the event is approved by the Otago and Southland Secondary Schools Sports Associations. The event is smoke and drug free, in line with school sports policies.
All students must be enrolled at an Otago or Southland secondary school (years 9 -13) on the date of the event and entered in an age division up to and including, boys or girls under 19 years.
There are two divisions, Novice and Championship, so that students of varying slalom ski abilities can participate.
The novice divisions are for students who have not completed the full championship slalom course. The novice course will use an additional buoy placed 3 metres inside each championship turn buoy, which makes the slalom course much easier to complete. They will score 0.5 points per buoy while championship skiers will score 1 point per buoy.
The event will include two rounds of slalom competition and divisions include:
• Championship boys and girls (13 years and under)
• Championship boys and girls (16 years and under)
• Championship boys and girls (18 years and under)
• Novice boys and girls (13 years and under)
• Novice boys and girls (16 years and under)
• Novice boys and girls (18 years and under)
The competition will be held at BANNOCKBURN INLET. Briefing will be held on the beach at the southern end of the inlet at approximately 7:15 am (time will be confirmed closer to the event – early start reduces ‘sun strike’ later in the day as the sun moves round to the west) and championship skiers will ski shortly thereafter, starting from this beach.
