Oshi-e is a Japanese handicraft that became popular in the Edo period (1615-1868) and translated, means ‘pressed picture’ made by folding and pressing fragments of kimono cloth and washi paper to create an image, often of Geisha, flowers, landscapes and insects. It is still a popular craft today and this modern adaptation of wrapping the fabric over cut shapes and using stitching rather than glue, will ensure our artworks are durable. During our session, several designs ideas will be available for you to choose to work on including flowers and landscapes using re-purposed coloured and exotic patterned fabrics including silks and cottons.Join popular WI tutor Mary Day for this workshop - if you were at the Japanese Day last Autumn you will have met her already and seen samples of this beautiful work.
Cost to members £35, non members £40, plus £5 for materials on the day. Forms are with your secretary and at [email protected]
