The Ocean Springs Environmental Alliance invites you to attend a lecture featuring Caroline Wiygul speaking titled Building Resilience and Creating Beauty with Rain Gardens, Food Forests, and Backyard Habitats. The event is set for Tuesday, October 28, at the Mary C Cultural Center in Ocean Springs, 6 p.m. for wine & cheese, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for the lecture.

The Environmental Alliance is especially pleased to welcome Caroline to Ocean Springs, her hometown, as our lecturer. She is the daughter of Robert Wiygul and Julia Weaver, both environmentalists and active members of the Ocean Springs community.

Concerning the content of her lecture, Wiygul states, “Communities around the world are working to build green infrastructure, permaculture food systems, and native-focused landscapes to improve community health and resilience to environmental disasters. This presentation will explore these strategies, and policies and programs that support them around the Southeast and farther afield, and how we might adapt them to make our Ocean Springs neighborhoods safer and more biodiverse.”

Caroline grew up in Ocean Springs, and her childhood around the Mississippi Sound inspired her to pursue undergraduate degrees in Environmental Studies and English. In 2023, she earned her Masters of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Edinburgh. Caroline lives in Chattanooga, TN, and works as landscape designer and urban resilience researcher, collaborating with schools, community centers, and churches to create habitats that make neighborhoods healthier and safer.
