About this Event
In honor of his passing, a striking doc-portrait of the late jazz sax great, Ornette Coleman. The film intercuts footage of Coleman’s concert “Skies of America” (w/his hometown Ft. Worth Symphony), with interviews, casual conversations, appearances by William Burroughs, Buckminster Fuller and Don Cherry, and other archived performances. Directed by Shirley Clarke (The Connection, Cool World, Portrait of Jason), whose free-form structure aligns with Coleman’s instincts. “The combination of Clarke’s ingenuity and the cool intelligence of saxman Coleman makes for a stunning documentary.”
