Join Candice and unlock the heartbeat of Middle Eastern dance in our immersive course designed for dancers of all levels who wish to deepen their understanding of the intricate rhythms of this ancient art form.In this Introductory course, you'll embark on an exploration of traditional Middle Eastern rhythms and their role in traditional, folkloric and modern Egyptian dance. Candice will take you through engaging combos and rhythm exercises, and you'll learn to identify, count, and interpret these essential beats, from the classic "Maqsoum" and "Saidi" to the vibrant “Baladi”. We will cover 8 of the fundamental rhythms that every belly dancer must know!

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
- Rhythmic Foundations and Cultural Context: Gain insight into the history and cultural significance of each belly dance rhythm and discover how rhythms are most commonly used in music today.
- Drummers and Zillers welcome: If you are a drummer or play zills/sagat you are welcome to attend and learn while playing for the dancers, allowing you to feel the rhythms in real-time and practice syncing your movements.
- Technique Integration: Learn how to incorporate these rhythms into your dance routine. Candice will guide you through combinations that highlight each rhythm's unique qualities.
- Improvisation Skills: Build your confidence in improvising with different rhythms. Explore how to adapt and create dance phrases spontaneously by grounding into the rhythm structure.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This workshop is perfect for belly dancers at any stage of their journey—whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your skills. Combos will have variations for Beginner to Advanced students. Musicians interested in understanding the intricate relationship between rhythm and movement are also welcome.
