After the success of this year, Est's origami retreat is returning with a BANG in 2026; giving you the chance to discover the beauty of FOLDING the paper & FEELING the calm. Est's workshops are hugely popular & along with a very special guest, you'll be feeling refreshed after this creative retreat.WHAT TO EXPECT
During the retreat we will be taking time to slow down from the hustle & bustle of life, giving time to unwind. Using origami as our main focus, we will begin with a large whole day project, which will be revealed in July. This project will be a great way to begin taking deep breaths in and breathing out the busy nature of the everyday.
Following this Est will then guide us in a "free flowing" day of creativity. You will have unlimited access to Est's origami kits. Equipped to make whatever you fancy and with Est on hand to add extra tips & tricks, this will be a great way to immerse ourselves in a relaxed time of folding.
Both days will begin and end with the wonderful Deb, who will guide us in a short time of opening and then of reflection with well chosen words and some gentle restorative movement. She will also bring a box of paint, pens and other creative tools from her studio.
Each day will begin at 9.30am and end at 5pm allowing plenty of time and space to get creative.
WHERE
The retreat will be at the magnificant Derby's Museum of Making! We will have the Loft space (at the top of the building) exclusively to ourselves. Which gives us plenty of space & gorgeous sunlight. The Museum itself is fantastic & so it's well worth having a browse while we're there! Check out this virtual tour of the Museum to get even more of a feel for it.
The Loft is situated at the top of the building & overlooking the river, which gives gorgeous views. There's plenty of green space to explore nearby as well, if at any point you fancy fresh air during the retreat. The Loft is accessible by lift, as well as stairs.
If you need any help finding over night accomodation do let me know. A private facebook group of people coming to the retreat will be created this will enable you to connect with others before the retreat but also a great way to share tips on accomodation.
FOOD
There will be fruit & pastries for breakfast upon arrival, snacks throughout the day, a buffet lunch & plenty of teas, coffees & soft drinks. All provided by The Museum of Making's River Kitchen. If you have any dietary requirements please do let me know as soon as you book.
WHO
The retreat is being hosted by Est & Deb.
Est is probably who you are most familiar with - origami enthusiast and passionate tutor! Est will enjoy getting to know you just as much as sharing with you her expertise and origami knowledge. She's been running Origami Est for 12 years now and loves to share the joy of paper folding with everyone she meets. Est also has a young family and a walking toupee (peruvian guinea pig!)
Deb Fielding is a writer and visual artist. She has a huge passion for creating space for people to rest. Deb specialises in poems and short stories, and painting. She is hugely passionate about encouraging others to nurture their inner artist. She is based in Milton Keynes and splits her free time between watching seedlings and children grow and playing with paint in her studio. Check out her work here: withnarrative.com
