I am inviting everyone who has expressed interest in participating in this program and... anyone who I figure could be interested.
I have two main reasons for creating this program specifically for a younger generation than my own:
1. To do my part, along with other teachers of the complete Tai Chi Chuan system around the world of presenting a clear and complete model of what the practice involves, how Tai Chi Chuan is a complete Kung Fu system, and how it is not limited to the common societal notions of it being intended for the elderly or, more generally, how it is nothing more than an easy form of exercise.
2. With the recent retirement of my teacher in Montreal, I feel a mounting responsibility to plan for the lineage to thrive on in future generations. I am the only one of my Sifu's students who is passing on the complete lineage's teachings. Some of my own students assist me in this effort, however we are all about the same age! You can see that without some younger students, I will be the last of my lineage. On one hand, this sounds like a great premise for a movie, but it is also a little unsettling for me...
Regardless of age, gender or size... Tai Chi Chuan is the art for the Sage Warrior. It is perfect for the introspective type who understands that the gamut of life's experiences include: lofty attempts to learn the Truth as a spiritual experience available here and now; discovering the courage to practice humility for self-improvement for both mind and body; and the skill to manage the most mindless violence that comes into our path wanting to harm us or someone we care about.
With these areas developed, I think we also feel more ready to stand up for our ideals when confronted with an opportunity to speak up against or for something we see at work, the grocery store or with friends.
And, yes, it is a great physical challenge. While you can workout at the gym, do Yoga, jog, or whatever else you like, Tai Chi Chuan doesn't need any of these other disciplines to offer a practitioner everything they need. I don't care who you are. I can make this practice challenging for you. Also, I can adjust it to make it accessible to everyone.
It is an effective healing art. Old injuries and discomforts disappear over time. There are exercises for pain management. We have more energy for our daily life.
We are learning to be the balance in a world so full of violence and peace. This practice is about changing the self, not the world.
I have no time for MMA or much in the way of competition. While we have a lot of fun practicing the martial components, I don't feel like we're training for a game or competition. It's for something real. Also, to inflict unnecessary injury on another is irresponsible use of martial skill, in my opinion. It will inhibit your development spiritually. Also, scar tissue, such as is developed from the healing of receiving blows frequently and habitually, is an energetic blockage that will lead to health issues long after everyone has forgotten whatever trophies you won. It makes no sense in a martial art based on Qigong for wellness. I will say no more about this. I mention this as a declaration of our school's philosophy and to attract the right people, not to change anyone's mind who disagrees.
On October 6, let's get together for an hour and a bit. We can try some Qigong together. We can show you some of the forms, martial applications, weapons, push-hands. I can share some of the health issues I've overcome or mitigated. Perhaps some of the others will, too.
Please ask questions. Also, please message me with any questions you may have ahead of time.
We'll discuss the logistics of the class.
See you soon!
