About this Event
Organizer Training with NYC-EWOC and REI Union SoHo!
Join us for an interactive training session to learn how to organize democratic workplaces with NYC-EWOC and workers from REI Union SoHo! This in-person-only event will be hosted by the Solidarity Economy Club at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. Whether you're an organizer, worker-owner, or labor activist, this day-long workshop will provide you with the basics of how to unionize with your co-workers and highlight how unions and co-ops can work together to cultivate intersectional solidarity in our workplaces, communities and beyond.
The story of REI Union is an inspiring example of co-workers uniting to demand dignity, respect, and better conditions from a powerful employer, and ultimately winning the vote to join RWDSU. Today, the struggle continues as REI continues to engage in union-busting tactics by refusing to negotiate a contract. This reinforces the urgent need for unions and co-ops to build solidarity and to disrupt the concentrated corporate powers attempting to undermine our efforts.
Coffee, breakfast snacks, and lunch will be provided. We hope to see you there!
*Please note: this organizer training will be in English.
