About this Event
Like so many others who returned from Japanese Prisoner of War camps in 1945, Trooper Leaver didn’t discuss his experiences during his own lifetime.
Eighty years after his liberation, Dr Karen Rothery will tell the story of Trooper Fred Leaver and his time in the 3rd Hussars in the 1930s, his recall to the 8th Hussars for the Second World War, his service in North Africa, his capture and detention by the Japanese and his repatriation to the UK.
Using official records and the personal testimonies of others who were with Fred, Dr Rothery will take you on Fred’s journey, circumnavigating the globe, an extraordinary journey from Yorkshire to Hell and back.
Tickets can also be available at £14pp at, The Lord Leycester Hospital,The Visitor Information Centre, Eventbrite, or by contacting the museum direct for this bespoke event which includes before and after hours entry to the museum, with wine, soft drinks and a buffet.
