I'm back just before the year ends to push the waters to their absolute limits. After an ambitious year of craftwork, songwriting and tomfoolery in solitude, I'm gonna provide a large, guitar-based band to Nighthawks on December 19th to perform songs that I have written this year – and I'll be singing along. Those of you who have previously seen me perform live with a band before may recognise some new faces.I'm very keen to seek feedback for those songs currently under construction, and I'll be sending out a form after the show for you to provide me with this precious, precious feedback. I beg of you to fill it out after the show and let me know what is and isn't working.
A bit about this Orange Orange thing – Orange Orange (experimenting with being pronounced as "double orange") is the diary-based solo project of Ryan Basile (me). My musical interests began with explorations of indie, delving into exploration of electronica, and now trying to reject all the indie-sleaze I've been soaking in since my childhood. I see myself as an accomplished songwriter, having been writing good songs for over 10 years now, and I direly hope these latest songs of mine are more coherent and less off-putting that some of my earlier songs.
My most recent release was a collection of songs related to my latest album. I call it SUPERNOVA Edition. Listen to it here.
Before the whole Orange Orange thing takes the stage – Nighthawks will be treated to performances by local bands Dog Door and Bowlos.
Dog Door are a critically-acclaimed (to me and my friends) band that pride themselves on their love of doors. Releasing an EP last year Every Door is a Dog Door – it led me to consider the erroneous nature of passageways and whether they could be also be considered as "lived spaces". Anyway my favourite song from that EP is Under an Hour. Don't miss Dog Door.(The following bio was written by Bowlos singer, Bill)Bowlos are a four piece alternative rock band hailing from Footscray. The result of childhood friendships, they draw wide and varied influences from indie, alternative and britpop. They are known for energetic shows, funny stage banter and tunes that aim to celebrate their lived experiences. (Ryan note: their banter is actually funny)
Tickets are $15 via this presale. Thanks for reading this description so far. I hope you feel enticed to come see me test the waters.
