SHOW COMMISSIONERS THAT THE PUBLIC SUPPORTS THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE!
This is a peaceful event. Signs will be provided. We need to bring attention to the upcoming vote on 6/22.
If passed, the ordinance would prohibit the sale of puppies, kittens, and bunnies in retail establishments in the county.
If you can, help pitch in for the cost of signs and printing on the attached fundraiser.
HERE ARE THE FACTS:
- More than 80 localities in Florida have already passed similar ordinances.
- Responsible breeders DO NOT sell to pet stores.
- Orange County is overwhelmed with pet overpopulation. Rescues are having to turn people away in need of help. Pets are being dumped at an alarming rate. Pet stores contribute significantly to this problem.
- Pet stores obtain their animals from the most notorious and cruel out of state puppy mills and pet mills.
- Puppy stores prey on consumers with outrageous interest rates.
- Citizens have numerous choices for adopting from private and responsible sources.
- Petland and other stores have numerous complaints for selling sick pets. One store is currently under investigation by the state.
- Corporate lobbyists are spending large sums of money to sway public opinion and enable pet stores with terrible records of welfare to continue their bad behavior.
