OUR PANEL
Steven Rayan is a mathematician, quantum scientist, and quantum computing researcher who has been with USask since 2016. He earned his doctorate from the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford in 2011 and spent 5 years at the University of Toronto before arriving at USask where he leads the Quantum Innovation Signature Area of Research and directs the quanTA Centre - USask's quantum research center, that he founded in 2019. His work in Saskatchewan in quantum physics has been highlighted in Scientific American twice in the past three years, and one of his recent papers in the area was recently a finalist for the prestigious Cozzarelli Prize of the US National Academy of Sciences. His work also explores the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, in the form of quantum-enhanced machine learning methods for accelerated discovery.
Joshua Baker is a seasoned tech product leader in Saskatoon with over 16 years of experience in developing innovative, revenue-generating apps and enterprise platform products. In his current role as Program Lead at Vendasta, Josh spearheads strategic AI & Communication initiatives for small businesses and the B2B companies that serve them. When he's not building products, you might find him geeking out over the latest tech trends or sharing his adventures as an early adopter of EVs in Saskatchewan.
Raul Chedrese is the Principal Engineer at 7shifts. As the 10th employee, he has helped grow the company from a small team of 10 all the way to 300. Building world-class user experiences and helping teams do more impactful work is what excites him most. He currently leads 7shifts’ AI projects.
Our moderator, Alix Hayden is the director of Usask's Innovation Mobilization and Partnerships (IMP) department. She earned a BSc, Honours Biology from USask and has held USask leadership roles for 6+ years. She has extensive experience in the innovation and biotechnology ecosystem, having held roles with Phenomenome Discoveries, Prairie Genome and Ag-West Bio.
