This winter The Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks is diving deeper into the architects that built Wausau’s neighborhoods and created the familiar skyline we all know. Join us on Saturday, December 6 at 1:30 pm at the Marathon County Public Library - Wausau as we focus on Oppenhamer and Obel. You can’t help but recognize many of the buildings Oppenhammer and Obel either designed or contributed to with additions. The list is enormous and includes The Elks Lodge, Federal Building, and Grand Theater in downtown Wausau; the original grandstand and the Exhibition Building in Marathon Park; and many residences and schools.
Throughout the 1920s to the 1950s the firm put their mark on private residences, government buildings, schools, and especially theaters. And their influence was not just in Wausau. Their buildings can be found across Wisconsin, and the midwest.
