This Competition is to compose an aria for solo singer and orchestra.
The art of writing for the voice, and especially for voice with orchestra, needs encouragement. To enter the competition, compose an aria for singer and orchestra. The aria can portray any emotional state, and use a text in any language that is commonly used in international classical singing. The aria can be a stand-alone piece, or can be from a real or imagined longer dramatic work.
Prize:
Finalist and winning entries will be performed at public concert with top singers and Siam Sinfonietta
Judges:
International composers and opera singers will grade and pick the winning entries
Cash prize for top entry
Rules:
Length: 2-9 minutes
Voice: Any (soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, countertenor, tenor, baritone, bass, any Fach)
Text: Any (you may use the words of well known lyric poets, you may set words from a preexisting libretto, or you may create your own text)
Orchestra: You may use any size conventional orchestra with up to double wind (including doublings) 4:3:3:1 brass, up to three percussionists, keyboard, harp and strings.
Submission Fee:
NO SUBMISSION FEE: under 25 or student up to Bachelor degree level
1,000 BAHT SUBMISSION FEE: non resident of Thailand, Thai resident over 25
Deadline: March 1, 2024
Results announced: March, 2025
